What Is a QR Code?

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional matrix barcode that encodes data — typically a URL or text string — as a pattern of black and white squares. QR codes can be scanned by any modern smartphone camera and are capable of encoding URLs, plain text, contact information, Wi-Fi credentials, and more. They support error correction, meaning a QR code can still be read even if part of it is damaged or obscured. QR codes are defined by the ISO/IEC 18004 standard.
